Hello everybody James here, you should have heard me on the podcast for this review but my net went down and when someone fucks around with your network it does fuck up the connection to other computers which you cant control completely so that is my reason as ripped apart and bashed as I will be, there you go!
Anyway onto WWE's newest venture into the world of gimmicks and that being a MITB based PPV, now when it first was announced I was very sceptical of the idea, people instantly bashed it saying oh its going to suck because they have ruined the MITB match, and in a sense that is very true. Also when it comes to other matches that get overused people seem to be fine with so it’s a line hard to walk on.
Anyway the PPV build was sub-par, the usual WWE build up of Wrestler #1 wanting to face Wrestling #2 and the usual spot monkey fest of building up a ladder match, no real complaints to the build up as there was not much of one.
Onto the PPV and the first match surprisingly was the Smackdown MITB, All I can say is that this match was one of the best matches of the evening, a fantastic ladder match, everyone got there spots in and were utilised correctly, even people like Cody Rhodes who honestly had no chance in hell of winning was used great. the spots in the match were not too stupid and predictable there was some nice combinations and storytelling in the match, ranging from that Christian and Hardy are the veterans of the ladder match so they would work together as they have the past knowledge, the fact of trying to keep the big men down as it makes it easier for the others to grab the briefcase. its was a fantastic match and something I really enjoyed and for Kane to win was great, 12 years after winning his first major championship Kane gets another opportunity to face for a world championship and with the MITB like Michael Cole said six times its been cashed in, six times it has been successful so I was happily waiting for the Kane title reign to come in the near future.
The second match being the Diva's title match was actually okay, it was not a great match, not a bad match. It was really used as a way to cool the crowd down after the mayhem of the MITB match prior. Not much to say about this match besides that it was essentially filler but the good kind which keeps you interested in what is going on without boring you too much, an okay match indeed
Next was the unified tag team championships, for me this was the biggest disappointment of the evening, the match for me was too quick and neither team was used effectively enough for me to enjoy this match, Okay the Hart Foundations has been around nearly a year or two but they are still very young in the business and with the Usos in as well both teams could work well off each other not only did we see that at the last PPV (Fatal Four Way) but the last few Raw's have also shown how both teams can interact well, this match was just very poor and it really did not showcase either team very well. For me this was like I said the most disappointing match of the evening.
Now the next match was very interesting for many reasons. The first being it was so early in the show The World Championship Match, not a typo everyone because for this month there was no heavyweight. Anyway the match was okay it was not as good as there Smackdown match a few weeks back which in my opinion stole the show that week. This match was based on Rey's ankle and how Swagger wanted to work the ankle to a position that Rey was unable to attack and it was a good bit of storytelling, it’s a shame that the match did not pan out that well. Rey was hitting moves that if the psychology was to be implemented Rey should have either not have hit or had trouble to hit, Rey was able to hit moves like there was no problem. The next problem I had was how stupid that made Swagger look, when he went for a pin after the gutwrench powerbomb he made sure Rey was able to hook the leg on the bottom rope and for me that just made Swagger look like a goofball plus it was the cameraman's fault for zooming out too much. Overall the match was lacklustre and not very entertaining, I was expecting more from this match but I got nothing so after this match I did feel a bit down heartened.
We then see Swagger attacking Rey until Kane comes out with no music and starts beating on Swagger chasing him to the back, okay that was fine, a payback for Rey for him helping on Smackdown a few days back that is fine, explosion and the lights go red Kane comes out now WITH MUSIC and a referee and cashes in his MITB and we see Kane with a chokeslam and tombstone and Kane is your new World Champion although by the time Kane had walked up the ramp it was magically the World Heavyweight Championship again...oh happy days!
This was great for me, after twelve years Kane still has the support as everyone was going nuts when Kane won the championship, really looking forward to a Kane championship reign, and I have to hand it to WWE they really pulled it out tonight with a great cash in but there is ONE major problem I did have with this entire angle. Mysterio becomes champion at Fatal Four Way only to lose it a month later at MITB, not only does this make Mysterio look like a complete goon but also it does tarnish the World Championship a but more after it did gain some prestige with some good lengthy reigns this past year. Hopefully Kane will remain champion until at the earliest November because then we can get a very nice length title reign rather than the odd month or two.
The next match being the Women's championship match was again essentially the cool down match after the happenings of the previous match, again this was an okay match even though I don’t like Kelly Kelly too much she is improving in the ring and it was a decent performance by both women and Layla winning and retaining the championship I have no real problem with there so a good cool down match again
Now we move onto the Raw MITB match and for me this match was VERY poor, it just didn’t have that feel or that action that the Smackdown match had. Whilst everyone done there spots it just felt more of a cluster fuck and most spots were predictable and this match I found very slow and got be bored. this was for me one of the weakest matches of the entire card and with Miz winning it does make sense but I just don’t feel as if Miz is best enough to get the MITB, but Miz is not becoming a double champion, he will lose the US championship before becoming WWE Champion if he wins. For me this was one of the worst MITB I have ever seen. I REALLY didn't enjoy this match
We now move onto the main event which was Sheamus Vs Cena in the Steel Cage for the WWE Championship, for me I REALLY enjoyed this match and I thought it was a great power match and the use of the cage whilst it was not used like everyone thinks a cage should be used, it was used to a way that made sense, I thought psychology wise it does make sense with neither man wanting to escape the cage rather by pinning them the moral of the man goes down. I thought it was a great title match and yes the ending was quite silly with the Nexus coming down but holding onto Cena whilst Sheamus jumps down and bolts was very good, building towards Sheamus who could be the leader of NXT, I hope its not but it looks like that way. Cena then getting serious and wanting to murder the NXT crew I found very enjoyable and I thought it was done very well. With Cena taking the momentum of the NXT arm band I thought was very good. I may be on my own but for me I enjoyed this cage match.
Overall for me this was a very enjoyable PPV and I thought the match card and the use of the match card was done very well. All the matches were average to great and nothing for me was too atrociously bad unlike other PPV's I have seen. I will give the PPV an eight out of ten, it was a very enjoyable show and I had no real problems with it. Honestly for me this is a PPV I would not have minded paying for if that was the case but seeing as we got it for free it made it all the much better.
SO that is my thoughts so lead the bashing commence!
