Well after sitting here with a beer and juice I watched NXT 2.0 with different eyes than I did last season, granted the big story was around what happened on RAW but we'll get to that another time. First off my overall impressions of what we were at least offered.
The Rookies - The ones I am impressed with ring wise so far is Harris and Watson; Oneal and Eli have 'big man' syndrome, meaning they're limited to what they can do since big men cannot do a whole lot. Then again, Barrett won 1.0 so that could mean that Kaval is screwed. Now as far as the mic skills goes, Bar none Henning (I mean McGillicuty) and Riley have it. They're not overly obnoxious as Otunga was and come from a background that actually makes sense, only wish to see them in the ring next week, however hopefully they don't have, dare I say it, Rock Syndrome where they talk a great game and have a limited moveset.
The Show - Okay most of the show was split in half, the rookies and the stint on RAW. Now while I'm happy and annoyed at the same time, the reasons are simple, they asked the NXT 2.0 rookies about how they felt about what happened on RAW and most of them said 'that's how you make an impact' however, looking at it from another point of view, the only one that SHOULD have been there, was barrett, the other six (yes I know what I said) shouldn't have been anywhere near the building, thus, if they return it almost makes the NXT Concept pointless....but almost.
Item two which kind of nerves me up just a tad, mainly the fact that they spent the last 12+ mins of NXT dedicating it to RAW when they could have showcased more rookies, but then again, it's only the first episode, however, it pulls the flare from them and pushes it back to season 1 rather a focus on season 2 where our focus is now 'will they repeat?'
Another thing I did wish to bring up was when they were talking with Henning, he mentioned his background, grandfather and father, however, if we know whom he is, and his father's last name was Henning....why the name change? At first it would have made sense to NOT make that reference, however, now it seems silly to call him another name when we know what his real name is.
It would be if they were cutting a backstage promo on Undertaker and he came out and said "Hi I'm Mark Calloway and I play The Undertaker." that interview kind of, made me think twice as to the point of making that mention.
Overall 2.0 looks...somewhat promising, the real downfall I think will be what happened on RAW. While that's great for RAW it shouldn't spill into the next season since we'll be more focused on the events, rather, the show.
By the way, Kaval, has the best name there...and he's carrying both women's titles....wow.
